Time to talk about Sophia

"Sometimes I sit, sometimes I stare
Sometimes they look and I don't care
Rarely I weep, sometimes I must
I'm wounded by dust"

Lyrics Laura Marling from her song 'Sophia'. You can watch/hear it below.

Sophia is smart and funny. With a heart bigger than the great beyond, she is vulnerable to being wounded. Her strength is in keeping her heart right there, out in the open. What kind of bravery is this, to stand with ribcage open to the elements, to the rocks and bones, and to the dust?

Her backbone is thick like the trunk of a thousand year old tree who knows which ways the winds prevail. She faces into those winds that whip around her arms and neck without once closing her eyes or shielding her heart from view.

And it has been broken, many times. On stage she shares that mended broken mended heart with those who dare see the golden dust traveling into the cracks like Kintsugi*.

Go see her if you get the chance. Go feel her heart if your heart can take it.

May I present Miss Nellie Minnelli (aka Sophia Livitsanis), appearing soon with her Empire of Sin...

*Kintsugi - the Japanese art of repairing broken objects with a mix of powdered gold or silver. Philosophically it treats breakage and repair as part of the objects history to be celebrated as survival, rather than something to disguise.
